The Challenge

Hewlett Packard had enjoyed a period of sustained success and growth and taken the decision to invest in a new department in Sweden.

The Divisional Managing Director responsible for forming the new team that would launch HP's Sweden office knew that this team had to quickly establish itself and achieve full operational capability as quickly as possible.

The office's dislocation from the business's London hub also meant that the team had to be highly independent, fully engaged and closely aligned to HP's strategy, purpose and behavioural frameworks if it was to be successful.

DeltaV were commissioned to support the formation and growth of this new Sweden office and was given a tight timeline to work with, aiming at supporting the team to achieve full operational effectiveness in just 3 months.

The Solution

Programme duration: 3 months

Participants: 40 Senior Leaders

DeltaV designed a programme that was focused on developing and maximising leadership ability and aligning the new team to HP's organisational purpose.

The programme was delivered in Sweden and involved each leader completing a Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire, MLQ™, receiving a detailed MLQ™ report and coaching session, immersive workshops and continued 1:1 coaching sessions to provide expert support and continued learning as the leadership team navigated the challenges of setting up a new Division in a new city.

Impact

DeltaV's work in developing the leadership team and supporting the establishment of the new team was invaluable in allowing the office to achieve full operational effectiveness on time and to budget.

Team members soon reported high engagement figures and continued to deliver encouraging business growth in the months and years that followed.

Knowing that the project had the potential to be extremely stressful, the DeltaV team also paid close attention to stress levels and the mental health of the team, which, thankfully remained at low levels despite the complexity of challenges that people were facing.
